French Curriculum

Modern Foreign Language- French

Learning a Modern Foreign Language prepares children to participtae in a rapidly changing world in which work and many other activities are often carried out in languages other than English.

Increased capability in the use of a foreign language promotes confidence, initiative, independent learning and encourages diversity within society. Young children are usually keen to take part in oral exchanges making the learning of a new language a means of developing oral skills as well of enjoyment.

Here at Longton, to meet the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum we teach a foreign language to Children from Year 3 to Year 6. French is taught during a weekly timetabled lesson by a specialist teacher,A range of teaching techniques are used to encompass all learning styles enabling all children to actively engage in the learning.
