Roles and Responsibilities

At the start of year 6 children have the opportunity to take on increased roles throughout school.  For example;

  • Heads Team - showing new pupils around and their parents, leading the weekly achievement assembly, organising 3 celebration assemblies in church per year, undertaking monthly snack and chat to find out about learning in the school, plus much more.

  • Attendance officers - Announcing attendance weekly in assembly, leading assemblies to explain the importance of attendance, encourage poor attenders to come to school, presenting in church about attendance.

  • team point collector - counting up the points for the whole school and announcing the winners in assembly each week

  • charity ambassadors - organising some fun filled charity events throughout the year - typical 3.

  • sports captains - organising games and competitions each lunch time and supporting our PE coach in some PE activities.

  • ipad monitors - making sure they are ready to use

  • dishwasher team,

  • DJ's - DJs in all school discos and parties

  • buddy leaders - organising time to spend with buddies in Y5, Y1 and reception.

  • office team - supporting the office over lunch

  • enterprise ambassadors - purchasing and running a for profits tuck shop each Friday and helping classes with their annual enterprise.

  • librarians - supporting classes with their visits to the village library and keeping our library organised.

  • School Photographs so we do not miss any important events and share them with our families

Year 6 also have the opportunity for a 'Take over' day, where they literally take over the school.  taking over roles of teachers, assistant teachers and even the headteacher,  extending their understanding of different roles within school. This opportunity is invaluable for teaching them about the planning, preparation and delivery - skills that you require in the workplace and gives them a real taste of what the future may hold.  Children describe the experience as 'amazing' and 'exhausting' whilst celebrating how many interpersonal skills such as listening, co-operation, team work, responsibility, accountability and communication that they have needed to use.

Younger pupils also have important roles such as:

Book Monitors, Milk Monitors, Pencil Sharpeners. School parliament and Eco Warriors, fruit monitors.
