Tracking

The assessment and recording of English is part of the overall assessment of the whole child and should be seen alongside all the other areas of development.

• Planned English learning is recorded in teachers’ planning, copies of which are kept in individual planning files. Units of work should be planned in line with the National Curriculum Programmes of study.
• Progress within the National curriculum is recorded by means of continuous monitoring.
• Children will be involved in appropriate  intervention programmes ( e.g.Animaphonics interventions ).
• A variety of methods should be used to gather material for record keeping purposes this may include voice recordings and photographs.
• A  report on each child’s achievement  will be sent to parents in July of every academic year. Progress reports will be provided for parents in the second half of the  autumn and spring terms.
• Children will complete tests in reading and writing in October, February and May. Rising Stars Progress In Reading and Rising Stars Grammar, Punctuation ansd Spelling are used from Year 1 to Year 5.
• Children in  Year 6 will undertake statutory assessment in Reading, writing and GPS. Year 2 children will continue to undertake the KS1 SATs assessments in May- this is the choice of the school. 
• Marking in writing is next step based.
• Assessment for Learning will be used to allow continuous assessment of progress and understanding to be made by both teachers and children.
• Moderation of marking will take place after each test week.
• Staff regularly attend cluster moderation with schools within the WRIST group to moderate writing.
• Children in Year 1 and those in Year 2 who did not meet the threshold,  will take the statutory Phonics screening test during the summer term.
• Children in Year 1 to Year 6 take part in the No More Marking writing assessment process
