Explore, Extend & Engaging with Evaluation and Inheritance, by Mr Kennedy

The Penguins had loads of engaging discussions and note-taking about our science focus this term, evolution and inheritance. They explored fossils, climates, biomes, animals & humans and collected as many responses as they could. This will guide our learning throughout this term when we look at each area of evaluation in much more detail.

The Penguins have had such a busy week this week. They have all worked incredibly well to research, plan, prepare and cook some very tasty dishes. They filled the school with amazing aromas and got lots of compliments on their cooking.
Great job Penguins, and great research into how some of our key ingredients got from farm to fork!

The Penguins had a blast using all the knowledge they've gained over the autumn term to scientifically explain the phases and movement of the moon. They loved using Oreos to visually represent their understanding of the phases. Great job Penguins and a big thankyou to those who brought in their globes and explore our planet, even more!

The Penguin tribe explored and demonstrated the movement of Earth, Moon and The Sun in our solar system. The Penguin tribe worked amazingly in this science lesson and demonstrated great understanding and use of key vocabulary - great job!
First day of Year 6 Design Challenge., by Mr Kennedy

What a great first day back! We ended our day with a tricky design challenge which was to build a bridge - only using paper straws and cellotape! In order to pass, they had to hold 1200g in weight!

Achievement Awards, by Mr Pearson

We were blessed with a sunny afternoon for our final achievement assembly. Mrs Brown and her Head's Team led procedures. All the Teachers and Assistant Teachers’ were awarded a smiley gold badge in recognition for their amazing commitment and hard work through a challenging year.
A special suprise was presented to Mrs Hothersall who is moving to a part-time post after 6 happy years of being our recpetion teacher. Good luck Mrs Hothersall on our next chapter in your life.

We as a school are extremely proud of the Bongo tribe and everything they have achieved in their 7 years here at Longton.

A strange Sports Day this year without parents, however the children of Longton Primary School excelled and had a fantstic time working as teams, being competative and enjoying indivdual running races.

All the tribes celebtrated their achievements and shared some of the examples of their artwork in so many different forms.

Super heroes, by Mr Pearson

We discussed superheroes during COVID lockdowns and came to he conclusion that we were all superheroes for different reasons including our families.
Firstly, we looked at form of superheroes in action and the design of their outfits and sketched our own plans.
Secondly, we experimented with water colour pencils and then completed our final piece of art.
Arts Week, Day Three!, by Mr Kennedy

Day Three of The Penguins Art Week was absolutely fantastic!
In the morning we explored adding details to our painting images through dotting & then had a fantastic computing lesson where the children edited photographs through Canva.
We added silhouettes to acetate overlays, then squirted paint on a card and merged the two designs to create interesting artwork!
We also began working on our class collaborative artwork, inspired by Chuck Close!

Another fab day in The Penguin Tribe today!
We had great fun exploring our inspirational stories across the past two years, inspired by the work of Marc Quinn.
We explore colour connotation and colour tones to represent the story of the articles.
We also spend the day exploring heroes over the past two years, like Captain Sir Tom Moore. The children then designed their own Superhero & their costume, badge and 'powers'.
We had some great ideas from Lava Girl that stops volcanic eruptions to SuperDoctor who travelled the world saving lives! The creativity was incredible tonight!

The Meerkats have designed their own masks using inspiration from many different sources to show their creative skills based on mask wearing experiences during the COVID.
Arts Week 2021, Day One!, by Mr Kennedy

The Penguins had a blast on their first day of Arts Week 2021! They had lots of fun in their morning tasks, which they are doing their Daily Doodle Challenge. The morning continued into planning and preparing our COVID masks & their Arts Week T-Shirts.
In the afternoon, a lot of the children were continuously inspired and let their artistic inspiration flow, adapting ideas for their t-shirts and supporting one another in doing some dying of other t-shirts.
We finished off our afternoon by designing a new postage stamp for the Heroes Royal Mail Postage Stamp Competition.
We can't wait for another day of artistic expression!
