Year 6 have been busy this week completing the 2022 SAT's tests to allow Mr Pearson to get a baseline for the coming year ahead.
We are looking to our residential to York in a couple of weeks time.

First lesson t.oday the Penguin and Koala tribes came together for some challenges in the hall. Buddies had to build the highest towers, throw and catch different sized balls 20 times to each other. Next challenge was to design an imaginary animal.
Finally we had team challenge using the giant parachute.

Trip to Story Homes, by Mr Pearson

The Koalas enjoyed a fascinating trip to a building site on Thursday. Donning hardhats and high visibility jackets, not forgetting our wellies, we were shown around the development. We learnt that it takes 3 years to complete your training to operate a fork lift truck, that motor is made on site from dry materials and then mixed with water. We explored a semi-built house and learnt about how it is made. Do you know that to build a house there is approximately, 21 different trades involved and over 60 people are involved in the process in total?

We enjoyed our visit from Mad Science. Lots of fun and learning. I'm sure we will all be trying the balloon and hair experiment!

The dress rehearsal was a resounding success today.
The children are looking forward to the next performance on Wednesday evening and the final performace of Star Warts on Thursday.

In LPS+ this week the children have been investigating board games and jigsaws to evaluate what makes a good game. IN the following weeks the children will be designing and making their own game.

Today KS2 have had the pleasure of Stuart a coach from Lancashire County Coach into school to give us hints to improve the Koalas cricketing skills.

Brilliant public speaking, by Mr Pearson

All of the Koala tribe wrote a speech to describe why they thought a sports person, who they chose, was the best Olympian ever.
They then performed their speech in front of the tribe.
Two children were chosen as the winners.
Emma and Stanley then went to Hutton Grammar School and had their presentation judged by local MP.
Only one winner was chosen out of 15 entries. Both Emma and Stanley did brilliantly, however a child from Broakoak Primary School was chosen as the overall winner.

Super scientists, by Mr Pearson

As part of science week, the Koalas investigated if the thickness of biscuits affected the amount of times they could be dunked until the biscuit dissolved.
The winner was..... a bourbon biscuit.

What a class of artists and designers. Installation based art today and a fantastic week of using CAD to design their own key rings.

CAD drawing excitement, by Mr Pearson

The Koalas have had an afternoon of fun learning by using Tinkercad, a software package to teach the children the basics of CAD drawing. The children will eventually make their final designs using a 3D printer that school has been loaned.
Exciting times.
