This week we have been having great fun learning the first part of the story A Lion in the Meadow off by heart. We have used talk for writing to help us. There have bneen pictures and actions which have made it all very funny. Today the children have been having a go at using their story voices to write their very own animal stories. We have had all sorts of great ideas such as A Cow int the Bath, An Elephant in The Fridge and A Snake in the Cupboard.

There was lots of enthusiasm in the room for the writing task today.

Well done everybody .

A busy week, by Mrs Catterall

Date: 19th Sep 2016 @ 6:25pm

What another fantastic week we have had in Year 3.  Lots going on with our Roald Dahl day activities and our first swimming lesson.

On Tuesday we enjoyed describing our hunt for the Golden Ticket in school.  The Golden ticket is still hiding away in one of the books in school.  I wonder who might find it when they change their reading books next week?

In the afternoon we had lots of creative activities going on.

Origami foxes (Fantastic Mr Fox), play doh sweet creations (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), Mr Twit's messy beard (The Twits), dream catchers and dream jars (BFG) as well as some painting (The Giraffe, the Pelly and Me). The children all worked really well and it was lovely to see lots of children helping each other out with some of the more tricky bits of the activities.

On Thursday the children were very excitied to be going swimming.  They were patient and waited their turn while Jane assessed their skills.  Next week they will get to spend more time swimming in their different groups.

I know it's going to be a great year.

Roald Dahl Day, by Mr Coxhead

Date: 13th Sep 2016 @ 6:18pm

Roald Dahl Day has been a thriving success!

We all gathered for an assembly at the end of the day to share some of the fantastic work produced in each class. Year 6 performed a poem from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory which you can see a video of below. Years 1 to 5 shared a wide range of dazzling work (from extended writing to various styles of artwork) - photographs can be seen below!

During the assembly, we drew names from the BFG's 'dream jar' to find out who had won the Association's Gloriumptious Roald Dahl competition. We invited three very special people to the stage to draw names from the jar (all of whom share their birthday with Roald Dahl!): Stanley in Y2, Bailey in Y3 and our very own Sandye!

The overall winner of the 29-CD Roald Dahl Audiobook Collection was Sara (Y5). Five runner-up prizes (a BFG Activity & Sticker Book) were also won.

Thank you to everyone who donated £1 by entering the competition! We have raised over £140 to replenish the stock of Roald Dahl novels in our school library.
