Archie's Anglo Saxon and Viking Facts, by Mrs Catterall
Date: 10th Jun 2020 @ 8:46pm
ANGLO SAXONS
When they were 10 years old they were seen as adults and learnt to do adults jobs. If they did a crime they were punished as adults.
They did not have any prisons. If people were caught they would be executed or fined money.
Anglo saxons had armies but they did not fight all the time they also had normal jobs.
They were very good at making things from metal like swords and tools and beautiful jewelry.
There were 5 different Anglo Saxon kingdoms - Northumbria, Mercia, Wessex Kent and East Anglia.
Anglo saxons were terrified of ghosts, dragons elves and other mythical creatures.
VIKINGS
Vikings fought using long swords and axes.
They wanted to conquer the whole of Britain.
Vikings travelled from Scandanavia to England.
Some Vikings came to fight but others came to settle peacefully.
After years of fighting the Vikings and the Anglo Saxon king Alfred the Great made peace and learned to live together.
Vikings thought that they could only go to Valhallah which was Viking heaven if they died in battle if they dies any other way they would go to Viking hell.
Vikings were known by their first name and their nickname so they could be called things like Thor the Smelly or Ascot the Clumsy.
