Bug man visit, by Mr Pearson

An exciting day in the Meerkat tribe. An amazing hour with the Bug man learning about life cycles in animals. The children were captivated as well as Mrs Doherty and myself.Some lucky children got to handle some of the mini beasts.

This term we have been planting seeds, caring for the growing seedlings and then the plants.
They have certainly grown. The elephants have green fingers!
The peas and radishes have grown and we have been able to try the peas - they were very sweet.

This morning we had a visit from the John Vale. He talked to us about vertebrate and invertebrate as we got to see some animals of different types.
Well done Elephants you were outstanding at listening during the whole session and were very quiet so as not to scare the creatures.
Pippa asked an amazing question and we found out that some animals shrink as they get older.
The slime from an African land scale kills germs. (Elizabeth)
Snakes are venomous not poisionous. (Olive)
I didn’t know that some animals can see hot and cold, that was interesting, it was why we couldn’t look directly at them. (Elizabeth)
Spider’s webs are the strongest material in the world. If it was as thick as a pencil it would stop a jumbo jet. (Noah)

This week we enjoyed sports day on Monday, move up afternoon Tuesday fractions in Maths finding halves and quarters, English our new story about the queen’s hat, Geography , all about the UK.Can they remember the 4 capitals and countries?! Science, minibeats - phew- busy as always!

This week we have been learning about fractions in maths, finding halves of shapes.In our jigsaw work we have been looking at life cycles, how they work and how things change. We looked at some photos of how I have changed over the years and the children can bring their own photos of when they were a baby so we can see how they have changed too.
In science we collected leaves and thought how we can sort them.

The children have made a wonderful start to their final term in Year 2.
They are enjoying working on a poem by Michael Rosen called Bathroom Fiddler and will be having a go very soon at writing their very own poems called Desk Fiddler.
In maths we have been looking at addition of 2 digit numbers and looking over other bits of learning from the past. We have started our new topic which is learning about India and made a start on our new unit of work in science all about animals, life cycles and habitats.
The children enjoyed using BBC Dance Mat in computing today which is a great , free site for learning to touch type.
Skeletons - what do they look like?, by Mrs Catterall

We worked individually then in groups to create a drawing of what we thought our skeletons looked like. Then we sorted some given bones into a body outline before playing a race against time game to check our skeletons against a correct one and move the pieces as needed. We finished by naming some of the bones with their common names and their scientific names.

The final day. We have loved arts Week and learnt lots of new skills. Here are our final toucan prints.
We also made fantastic mask wearing self portraits, when you take off the mask it reveals all our awesome characteristics and our wonderful smiles. They are all amazing the children did a fantastic job.

The Koalas have had another couple of busy days. Yesterday children finished their pastel and ink wor, some did some sewing and we used words and symbols to creare graffitti style art .
Today we have painted our clay pots , created super heroes , videoed us singing and finished our time capsule books

Today we were printing. Earlier in the week we focused on the work of Henri Rousseau- the tiger in the jungle.
We have thought a lot about our outdoor environment and nature during lockdowns with many of us enjoying our country walks. In class we have been learning about the importance of the rainforest so we linked these 2 ideas together to create our own, multi coloured prints.
I only have a 1 photos I’m afraid as my hands have been covered in printing ink most of the day! Final pieces will be photographed tomorrow when they are dry.
This afternoon we took a bit of time out to enjoy some reading in the sunshine, tennis and finished off with a ice pop.
On Monday we make our own art shirts, take a look, can you find inspirational messages or try and spot a rainbow or 2!

Today we have been thinking about what life has been like during covid. We are making a time capsule of our art work and our ideas so it will be interesting to open in a few years and remember what our lives were like!
We also finished off our superhero capes and transformed into superheroes!
This afternoon we made a self portrait with a face mask, which opened to show what we think we are like, this will go in our time capsule too.

This week we have focused on two artists, Norman Adams a British artist who used a lot of water colour to paint rainbows and today we have looked at Gaudi and visited Barcelona!
We looked at the tiles and mosaics that enhance the buildings in Barcelona and we have had a go at tiling the toadstools that live in the garden and then making Gaudi style minibeasts using egg shells. Plus lots of other fun too, take another sneaky peek x x x

Today we designed our own Superhero, we thought about what it meant, what powers they would have.
Then we designed a cape and made it using fabric paints, next the mask and then the wris5 band.Tomorrow we transform!!
