First week in the new term
This week we have started learning a lot of things.
Maths: In maths this week we learnt fraction and how to convert them into decimals later in the week. We need to make sure we are focusing on our place values in whole numbers and decimals numbers. Remembering that decimals are tenth, hundredth and thousandth. We have worked very hard this week to get a strong understanding of decimals, understanding thousandths and decimal as fractions E.G 4/10 = 0.4
English: In English we were learning how to proofread our work to get us ready for our next stage of learning key events. We learnt how to get ideas from a picture and videos in preparation for our big writes. We also set up editing and proof reading stations that will help us improve our work!
P.E: In P.E we did a bleep test which is where we here a bleep and run to the other side of the room/Ball cage. After a certain amount of laps you will get to a harder level - this is preparing us for our daily running and endurance building.
#Getfit #Bleeptest
Music: In music we are learning how to use the ukulele. We learnt the C C7 and F Cord.
French: In French we learnt animals and tried to complete a conversation with another person.
Computing: In Computing we looked on a website of a zoo and made a PowerPoint about animals that we can show to the year 1 class.

Date: 14th Apr 2021 @ 5:47pm
Hello!
I hope you have all had a well rested break after a busy spring term, and are looking forward to an exciting summer term.
I wanted drop in and let parents know how fantastic the Penguin Tribe has been. They have settled back into the classroom very well and have already demonstrated fantastic learning in our lessons. Also, I wanted to let you know that I have uploaded this terms subject organiser to the website and to Google Classroom. The organiser will give you an overview of what's to come over the next seven weeks.
Please keep up to date with our blog, as each week students from the tribe will be working with me to inform you all about the exciting learning this week - you can keep an eye our to see if your loved one writes the weekly blog or has a little shout out on the Year 5 page.
Wishing you a sunny, safe and joyful summer,
Mr Kennedy.

Welcome Back, by Rebecca Catterall
Date: 12th Apr 2021 @ 10:26pm
It has been fantastic to see everyone again after the Easter break.. We have had a great day today, we started with P.E. then discussed a series of pictures taken from a story - we spent lots of time chatting with our friends about what we could see, what we thought was happening and putting the pictures in order. We then read the story and found out if any of our ideas were true. We continued the morning with fractions in maths using smarties and then reading and planting seeds in Science this afternoon. The weather improved as the day went on and we enjoyed the sunshine outside.
We have a busy half term planned with lots of creative elements to it. We would really appreciate your support by making sure the children have everything they need in school to take part in lessons. Please send in P.E. kits and pencil cases if they are still at home. Reading books are changed on Fridays - School books need to be read each week and returned but please read other books at home as well - make sure it is recorded in the reading diary which needs returning on a Friday when we change books. We are testing times tables every week. please help them with this at home. Daily practise for 10mins makes a huge difference. 2x, 5x, 10x, 3x, 4x, 8x are the expectation for year 3 and then we move on to the 6x, 7x, 9x etc. You might be learning the 4x table but make sure you keep practising all the ones you can already do.
Mrs Atkinson and I are looking forward to a busy and exciting half term. We will be posting photos of our learning here on the blog.

The Koalas have had a Wonderful Wednesday.
The day started by tackling comprehensions based on extracts from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The class did an amazing job remembering the steps needed to be great reading detectives.
Next was spelling where great fun was playing a game where they had to solve anagrams for ey words- they enjoyed the game so much that you can now find it as a material, along with 2 other games on Google Classroom.
After a nice run around in the sunshine we came back in , did our fluent in five maths warm up and then began to use base 10 to subtract 2 digit numbers.
We practised our poem for the Easter Service tomorrow and then began to watch the Easter Story.
Lunch was delicious- roat chicken or pasta and yummy chocolate crispie cakes for all who wanted them.
The afternoon has flown by wit coding in computing, learning about colours in French and then singing in music.
A truly WONDERFUL day

After lunch we managed to do all of those things as well as singing happy birthday and eating delicious birthday cake.

Thank you Koalas, by Mrs Fletcher
Date: 19th Mar 2021 @ 4:04pm
Thank you Koalas for a wonderful week. You have worked hard and done some amazing learning.
Your knowledge of the Great Fire of London is truly outstanding and your enthusisam for our book in English, Vlad and the Great Fire of Londo has been brilliant to see.
In maths some of us have found using base 10 to add 2 two digit numbers a challenge but you jave all shown grit nd determination and you will all get there very soon.
Today learning about the census and linking it with your knowledge of the nativity story was great too. Your skills to draw your own tally charts to record the data we collected for our mini census really impressed me.
It has been a perfect Longton week, well done everyone.
See you all next week for more fantasti learning and lots of Easter fun
