Science - Friction., by Mrs Catterall
Date: 14th Nov 2020 @ 11:02am
We carried out an investigation into friction / grip. We wanted to discover which surface had the best grip. We worked in teams to find out at what height the ramp needed to be for the car to start to move. Each ramp was covered in a different material. We discussed what we had to do to make it a fair test. Some groups results showed that sandpaper had the must grip, while others showed plastic. The children thought this might be due to each groups car having different wheels.
Zoom meeting with Barden primary school, by Mrs Catterall
Date: 14th Nov 2020 @ 10:58am
On Thursday afternoon we enjoyed a zoom meeting with the year 3 children at Barden Primary School. We told them about our experiences of lockdown and how school is different now. We learnt that the children had done similar things to us and that they wash their hands as soon as they come into school like us. They have also been eating their lunch in the classrooms. They have started a topic on being archaeologists and will be learning about the Stone Age. We shared some of our knowledge and promised to send them more which they can use for research.
We look forward to connecting with them again throughout the year.

Remembrance Day 2020, by Mrs Fletcher
Date: 11th Nov 2020 @ 8:10pm
This morning we all took part in our whole school Remembrance service via Zoom. Mr Turner from The Royal British Legion spoke to us about his childhood memories of World War 2 and how we came to wear poppies as a symbol of remembrance.
After lunch we visited he Peace Garden to look at the poppy wreath and to have a few moments of reflection. Back in class we talked about remebrance, watched some clips from remembrance services and then the children split into groups to complete a task.
Each group were given 13 photographs linked to November 11th. Their task was to choose the photograph that they felt said the most to them . Many of the groups chose the photograph of the Commonwealth War Cemetry and said that they had chosen it as it showed how many people had died for us. As the children ordered their photos there was lots of great discussion going on.
Remembrance Day, by Mrs Catterall
Date: 11th Nov 2020 @ 6:19pm
The children were exceptional today. We held our Remembrance service via zoom, listening respectfully to Mr Turner and his memories of wartime. We discussed WWII and found out about the blackouts, air raid sirens and the Anderson shelters people would use to try and keep safe. We linked this to our understanding of when people have to shelter during earthquakes.
This afternoon we completed our poppies and added lovely poems to them. We went outside to our war memorial area, read a few prayers, recited Flanders fields and had a few quite moments of reflection.
