Of course we will still keep using our phonics to support our reading and writing but we can have a little break from alien words for now!

Sports Festival, by Mr Monckton
Date: 15th Jun 2016 @ 10:05am
It's been great at Penwortham Girls today. We attended the festival with New Longton and we were split into 3 mixed groups and we worked on lots of different skills. One of the skills we worked on was team work. We were split into 3 mixed groups where we did lots of getting to know you sessions first off all finding out some different facts about our new team. We then had to put ourselves in height order before we started our team game where we had to get across our river as a team. This was so exciting! We also took part in athletics in the dance studio and some skills on the netball court.
After lunch we took part in a massive netball tournament. We really had a great day.
What was even better was the amazing dance from the heart workshop when we got back to school.

After practising the recovery position several times, bandaging each other up and taking it in turns to remember DRS ABC, Rory decided to set us all a homework task. Please expect lots of first aid tuition at home!
Art week - The Spooky Storyteller!, by Mrs Thomson
Date: 27th May 2016 @ 6:11pm
On Thursday this week we started our day with a special visitor in our assembly, Dominic the storyteller. Dominic introduced himself and explained that he has over one hundred stories in his head and travels all around the world telling stories to children and adults. He told lots of stories in the hall and had everyone laughing at his story about a boy called Jack.
Dominic then came into our classroom. He told us more stories and we all asked for a 'spooky story'. He had one ready in his head and it certainly had an ending that shocked us all!
Dominic worked with everyone in year six and explained how to make stories up, how to read them to others and what tricks he uses to capture the audience. We enjoyed working in pairs to retell his story in eighty seconds.

Today has been a fantastic day. We started the day with Rory our first aid trainer from St John's Ambulance. We had a fantastic morning learning all about why first aid is important, what to do if someone had an asthma attack and also what to put in our first aid kits. After break we looked at what to do if we found someone unconscious and using our primary survey and our DRS ABC (Danger, Response, Shout, Airway, Breathing, Circulation). We also managed to put each other in the recovery position and how to deal with choking. We finished by looking at bleeding and dressing wounds. Rory also set us some homework and make sure we are talking about first aid.
This afternoon, some of the boys had a great - Dominic a story teller came and told us all some great stories whilst the rest of the class were out at choir. He even managed to retell the story in 75 seconds before we tried it ourselves.
A massive thank you to Mrs Little from Penwortham Girls High who came and performed a samba song with us.
