World Book Day 2020 science and space, by Mrs Masterson

Date: 6th Mar 2020 @ 11:21am

This world book day most people came in and science or space themed outfits to fit with our whole school year theme of moon landings.   We loved the fact that most people went with the principle of it is the thought that counts not the cost of the outfits - very eco!   Luckily, our school is very creative and we have seen some amazing ideas for the theme. Today we have also included another whole school write, starting in year six all the way to reception and seeing what wonderful story writing can be comprehended into it! At the end of the day we will have a big assembly and read through the excellent work we have created.

Meeting famous author Liz Kessler, by Mr Pearson

Date: 3rd Mar 2020 @ 7:46pm

Today we had the priviliage of million copy author Liz Kessler come to school to speak to us about how she plans and writes her books. We were all given inspiration for our own writing and learnt how Liz gets her ideas for her stories, although going to Bermuda to research a book like she did, might be costly!!

She then answered a range of interesting questions from the children and went on to personally sign copies of her Emily Windsnap series of books.

Another fantastic opportunity for our fabulous children at Longton Primary.

Stroked rabbits, guinea pigs, hens and even saw a tarantula! Smelt herbs and lovely leaves ,planted a sunflower seed and sat on a tractor. no wonder we were tired on the way back!

It may be the last day of the half term but yet again the Elephabts are being excellent learners. They have all done an amazing job using imperative verbs to write instructions on how to make egg and cress sandwiches.

Every child has been in the kitchen to make an egg and cress sandwich with Mrs Woolley.

We have looked at the weather in 5 European cities or towns and have thought about appropriate clothes to wear in the weather conditions today. We have discovered that in Portugal it’s sunny and in other locations it’s snowing or gale force winds.

This afternoon the children are having a party as their compliment treat.

Penguin fun, by Mr Pearson

Date: 10th Feb 2020 @ 1:09pm

In this week’s English lessons again we carried on with our Aladdin story, writing a description of the cave and the characters.

This week’s weekly spellings this week are ‘early, Earth, eight, enough, exercise, experience, experiment, extreme’

In our grammar we did things that were linked to our English like onomatopoeia, similes and fronted adverbials.

In our maths lessons this week we played a game of battle ships which linked in with our maths topic of co-ordinates. Remember to keep learning your times tables.

In this week’s topic lesson, we got to design our own Roman bath house. If you wanted to you could put a statue of you wanted to.

In French, we learnt about hobbies that we would do every day.

In music we had a show off week were people could bring in an instrument or sing a solo or a duet.
