HAPPY NEW YEAR to all . hope you all had a wonderful christmas time . This half term we are doing shang dynasty this topic is based in China. it happened between 1746 BC AND 1046 BC. In math we are learning about the perimiter of shapes and in english we have been doing relative clauses. today we had to write any story of our choice but it had to contain relative clauses . in science we are learning about living things and there .

Happy New Year to you all, I hope you all had a fabulous Christmas. The children were excitied to tell me all about what Santa brought them and I'm looking forward to reading their Holiday Passports over the weekend. If yours is still at home please bring it in as soon as possible.
Thank you again for all my lovely gifts. I bought myself a jewellery box with the voucher, thank you.
This term has lots of activities planned.
Our main theme is going to be History based 'The Stone Age to the Iron Age'.
We will also be looking at Light and Dark in Science, Dreams and Goals in Jigsaw, Islam and the prophet Muhammad (pbuh) in R.E. Swimming continues on a Thursday, we will be doing life saving skills, the children will need to bring starting next week a T.shirt and Shorts to go over their normal swimming gear. I will send more detailed information once I've spoken to Jane at swimming this week.
Projects can be connected to any of our topics or can be about your child's own interests. Projects are due to be in Wednesday 22nd January - Parents evenings are Mon 27th and Wednesday 29th.
We have 18 children attending an athletics event next Tuesday afternoon - letters will go out this week.
We have also got our school trip on Tuesday 21st January, we have booked to go to the Harris Museum in Preston for a workshop all about the Stone Age. Letters and details will be sent out later this week.
The children have returned to school ready to learn and have been shining brightly with their focus and concentration. I'll keep you posted on all our amazing work.

We are truly thankful, it has been a pleasure to teach your amazing children this term, they bring us so much joy, enthusiasm and amazing personalities we are blessed to be able to help them care, grow and shine.
There are lots of things planned for another exciting term in 2020. We look forward to seeing you all then and hearing about your holidays.

Making Meerkats, by Mrs Catterall

This week we had our first go at sewing. Hanging Meerkat decorations were the aim of the activity. The Meerkats were marvellous. They got on threading their own needles, helping each other out, it was a lovely time. We will be doing some more sewing next term without pre punched holes, we have some keen seamstresses amoungst us, I can’t wait to see their creations.

We had fun today working together to make a 2D shape puzzle.We each had different pieces and had to work out what shapes we thought we might have. Then we all helped to put it together, one group find 3 different ways!
We also had fun creating crazy snowmen out of 2 D shapes , we gave them a name and had to name and describe the shapes we had used.

Christmas is nearly here. π We have lots of activities planned this week to get us all into the Christmas spirit.
Making calendars, Christmas cards, Meerkat Christmas decorations, sewing Christmas Meerkats, Christmas maths activities and lots more.
The panto trip is on a Tuesday, it is at an ice rink so please ensure your child has a warm coat, hat and gloves etc.
We have been amazing Meerkats this term and have earned a class compliment. The children are still deciding what to do so more details to follow.
Swimming is on as normal this week.

On Tuesday we had a great time at LegoLand with the year 6 class! First we took our class picture and then we had a little tour through these rooms with huge Lego models. We then lined up to get onto a ride. The ride was where your on a little cart with a few other people on board, you had to shoot the bad guys with a laser gun to save the princess.Then we went into a huge room with two rides a play factory and a race track to race your own cars against others.On one of the rides you had to pedal and the faster you pedal the higher you go and the other ride was go karts and you had to race each other but sadly some people were too tall

Maths
This week we have had a very busy time learning all about the equivalent fraction which is why you have the homework of fractions so that was what we were doing this week in maths.
English
We were focusing on the story `The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe`. So first we read the first part of the story trying to predict what would happen next in the story. We also wrote a letter to the children’s mother about our concerns about Lucy’s adventure in Narnia
Writing
On Friday we watched a film called Mog’s Christmas Calamity and had to retail the story through Mog’s eyes.
Spellings
This weekly spelling was though, although, dough, through, breakthrough, thought, bought, brought, fought, ought
We are looking forward to the pantomine on Tuesday and our Christmas party on Wednesday.
