week ending 6 12 19, by Mr Pearson

Date: 6th Dec 2019 @ 3:36pm

At the start of the week we went to Barden Primary School and watched there Y3 and Y4 Christmas play. We kind of got to meet them, introduce ourselves to them.

In writing, we were focusing on the story `The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. We started reading the book and write what would happen next and then on Friday we started watching the film.

In maths, we did fractions into decimals. So, what we had to do was Mr Pearson gave us a fraction and we had to write the decimal of it 23/100 = 0.23. We have also been investigating equal fractions.

We have been doing lots of times tables and Mr Pearson has been testing us on our understanding.

A quick message all of you need to know your times tables by June ready for the test.

Space rocket day, by Mrs Catterall

Date: 28th Nov 2019 @ 6:19pm

Wow! We had an amazing day on Tuesday thanks to Steve from Starchaser.  The children thoroughly enjoyed making their rockets and watching them fly high into the sky. If you were in Longton I wouldn’t be surprised if you could hear their ohhhs and ahhhs!

We went outside to look at the Nova 2 rocket.  It has cost £500,000 and 10 years to develop.  We are looking forward to seeing it blast off into space at the end of a May 2020.

We made some spaghetti bolognese from expedition freeze dried food similar to that which astronauts eat.

Thanks to all the parents who came along to watch, we hope you enjoyed it as much as the children.

Penguins 23 November, by Mr Pearson

Date: 28th Nov 2019 @ 12:00pm

In P.E, we had to find different ways to get across a bench and some gymnasts did cartwheels across the bench. At the end of the bench we had to do some sort of jump onto the mat.

In Geography, we did a facts file about Antarctica. How we got the information was from sheets with facts and the internet. We have looked at the weather in the topics and have started planning our own weather report.

In maths, we were mostly trying to learn all our times tables and different strategies in multiplication mentally.

In English, we learnt about conjunctions and putting them into sentences and using them in our writing we have started looking at information texts.

In French, we decided food with like, dislike, love and dislike.

In Grammar, we tried to understand the difference between nouns and pronouns.

On Friday, we did a class write we based on the film Artic Circle we had to rewrite the film.

Rocket Day, by Mrs Fletcher

Date: 26th Nov 2019 @ 9:29pm

It has been a truly amazing day . We started with an assembly where Steve from Starchaser told us about his company, how he bacame interested in rockets, his career and the Nova 2 rocket.

We also went outside to look at the rocket . It had been made smaller so it can be moved around the roads. When it blasts off in May it will be 12 meters long, the longest rocket to be launched in the UK.

Next we had fun looking in the special space box learning about the materials used to build rockets, rubberised rocket fuel, astronaut food and lots more.

As a treat the Elephants got to taste some astronaut freeze dried ice cream . They learnt how it was made and thought about its taste and texture.

Writing was next. We looked at videos of the command capsule of Apollo 11 , we found out that the astronauts were lying down when they blasted off. As we watched the rocket lift off we used our senses to imagine what it would have been like to have been on the mission to the moon. The children were using very impressive vocabulary.

The day finished outside where parents and grandparents joined us to watch 2 rockets be launched. Our very own Poppy was selected to launch one of the rockets.

A wonderful day of learning and life long memories .
