Date: 22nd Oct 2021 @ 3:04pm

Thank you to all the elephants and your families.  We have had a fantastic first half term in school.  Your enthusiasm has been infectious and you have all shone with your learning, aiming to be your best self.  I wish you all a lovely half term.  I'm off to London for a few days and will visit the Tower of London.  I'll see what photos I can take related to our learning on Crime and Punishment.   I have uploaded an assignment in google classroom for your Holiday Passports in case you haven't got your book.

I'll see you in a week for some more amazing learning.
Stay safe

A wet Wednesday!, by Mrs Thomson

Date: 20th Oct 2021 @ 9:24pm

I can’t begin to tell you just how many times the children have had puddle suits, coats or wellies on today! I lost count! The rain certainly didn’t stop the children from going in the tent to read, paint some pebbles or play in our Autumn Stew!

We had fun on our balance bikes, dancing to Dolly Parton in Squiggle and a wriggle, doing our number work, phonics and singing. We also had two birthday celebrations today!

We are very excited for our super secret reader tomorrow!

This week we have really enjoyed looking at and talking about old toys. In maths we have continued our work on measuring. We used our hands, feet and strides to measure things on the playground. We also used a bag of flour to compare weights to find things heavier and lighter. We loved using the balance scales to count how many cubes different things weighed.Busy, busy as always!

Have a lovely weekend?

Our first super secret reader!, by Mrs Thomson

Date: 14th Oct 2021 @ 8:07pm

The lions have had a fantastic day today! We had our very first super secret reader! The children were delighted and they loved the story which Mr. Burdock chose for them. They loved all the different voices and we had some children trying to copy him in our story tent later. A huge thank you Mr. Burdock!

(We have lots of dates available if you would like to surprise the children. Please pop and see myself, Mrs Regan or Miss Lynch)

We have been ‘e’ spotting in phonics, finishing some special Jigsaw work on how we can all work together, working on our colours and scissor skills and we also squeezed in a little party dancing. We also had children sharing songs with the group. The lions are very brave and adventurous!

Thank you for the amazing projects. The children took turns in sharing their work and they were very proud. We can’t wait to display them all.

Wellbeing Wednesday, by Mrs Thomson

Date: 13th Oct 2021 @ 11:59pm

A great start to the day with balance bikes, throwing and catching, fairy footsteps and squiggle and wriggle. We received a special parcel with banners, party plates and cups in as we are having a birthday party in our home corner tomorrow. The children have embraced this by making birthday cards, cleaning the home corner and even clearing a space for dancing!

We joined KS1 in the hall for singing in the afternoon which was brilliant! The lions joined in with a new song and quickly got the hang of the actions.

Tomorrow we have our first super secret reader coming into class. We are very very excited! This will be wonderful for the children as they are showing us how much they love stories being read to them. They are getting excited that they will soon have reading books to bring home.

Projects are due in on Thursday. Thank you for all of the ones we have received so far, they are fantastic. We will ask the children to share their project with the class tomorrow afternoon and on Friday.

Date: 11th Oct 2021 @ 7:56pm

Tomorrow we are sending home some information which you will need for the parent / teacher meetings next week. Please see your email from school on how to book a slot.

You are also invited to a meeting in the school hall on Tuesday 19th October at 2.30pm. This will finish in time for picking your child up at home time. Mrs Fletcher and I will be explaining phonics, reading and homework which we will start sending out the week after half term. It will be interesting for you to hear when reading books are changed, how often the children are asked to read at home, how we are getting on with our phonics and how we will be sending out the homework. As we will be meeting in school, please can only one parent attend from each family. If you are unable to attend I will put information on the Lions webpage following the meeting.

Thank you for sending the Autumn bags back into class. We are using them in our play and our art and craft.

Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to be a secret reader. Ssshhh!! Please keep it secret! We would love to welcome you in our class if you would like to visit and read the class or a small group of children a favourite story. Please see Mrs. Thomson if you would like to arrange a secret story time.

Half of the class went outside this morning for a bike ride as well as some throwing and catching. The rest of the class danced away with ‘squiggle and wriggle’ in the hall. We had fantastic music on today, I hope the children came home singing! We ended the day with story massage.

Tudor punishments, by Mrs Catterall

Date: 5th Oct 2021 @ 3:29pm

Today we started our lesson by talking about why we learn about history.  I was very impressed with the children’s ideas. “To uncover mysteries from the past”. “To see how the world has changed over time” “ To find out how life has improved” “So we can learn how to make things better”.

Our focus was on the Tudor times, we were hoping the punishments wouldn’t be as bad, but they got worse,

Can you work out what the punishments were?
